Archery at the Olympics
Archery has been a part of the Olympic Games since 1900, with women's events added in 1988. The competition consists of men's and women's individual and team events, with athletes shooting at targets from a distance of 70 meters. The targets are marked with concentric circles and points are awarded based on where the arrow lands. Athletes use recurve bows, which are made of wood, carbon fiber, and fiberglass. In 2012, the mixed team event was introduced, where one man and one woman compete together. The archery competition is governed by the World Archery Federation, and has been dominated by South Korea, who have won numerous gold medals.
